Dom släppte albumet A Kind Of Magic det året.

År 1986 kom albumet Press To Play.

The Beach Boys släppte sitt mästerverk Pet Sounds 1966.

Eric Stewart började sin karriär i The Mindbenders.

Benny Andersson började sin karriär i The Hep Stars.

John Fogerty släppte sitt soloalbum Eyes Of The Zombie 1986.

Flying LXXVIII 1985, 1995 and 2005 20/9 -09

Tonight I opened the show with Freddie Mercury. From his only real solo album Mr Bad Guy from 1985 I played two tracks. He also sang on the Queen songs ”One Vision” and ”Blurred Vision” released the same year.

Nick Mason, the drummer from Pink Floyd, and the on-and-off guitarist Rick Fenn from 10cc produced an album together in 1985 called Profiles. I played two tracks from that album. The first was instrumental. But the second had a singer called Danny Peyronel. He had also written the lyrics to that song called ”Israel”.

Eric Stewart delivered a track from the last 10cc album Mirror Mirror released in 1995. But he had also produced the album Agnetha Fältskog came out with in 1985 called Eyes Of A Woman. She sang the title track from that album and another song written by Jeff Lynne from ELO and Travelling Wilburys. The other guy from 10cc, Graham Goldman also sang a song from Mirror Mirror. It was a strange album as Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman only did one song together. A new version of ”I’m Not In Love”. The rest of the songs were recorded by Eric in France and by Graham in England.

Kevin Godley and Lol Creme who left 10cc in 1976 recorded their own albums in the eighties. Tonight I played the album version of their hit ”Cry”.

The Beach Boys recorded the last album with two of the then still living Wilson brothers in 1985. The album was called just The Beach Boys. I played two tracks from that album. I also played a track from the solo album by Brian Wilson called Orange Create Art from 1995. The  songs from that album were written by Van Dyke Parks. That was the same man who wrote the lyrics to the album Smile in 1967 which was never released by The Beach Boys.

John Fogerty from Creedence Clearwater Revival recorded his second solo album in 1985 called Centerfield. I played two tracks from that album.

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, former members of The Beatles released solo albums in 2005. I played a couple of tracks from those albums. And also one track by Paul McCartney ”Summer Of ’59” only released on vinyl! in 2005.

Benny Andersson from ABBA has toured with his own band during the last seven years. I played some tracks from the live album released in 2005.

Next Sunday I will play songs from the years 1966, 1976 and 1986. Hope you will listen then as well.

Flying LXXVII 1965, 1975 and 1985 13/9 -09

Tonight’s Flying had 31 tracks. That’s a lot.  But in the sixties and sometimes in the seventies the songs were very short.

The Hep Stars with Benny Andersson started with the single version of ”Cadillac”. It’s a bit different from the album version. There is no tambourine in this version. I also played the flip side called ”Mashed Potatoes”. That track can only be found on the single. The Hep Stars played a couple of more songs tonight. All were taken from singles.

Björn Ulvaues, the other male member of ABBA was member of Hootenanny Singers in the sixties. They played one track tonight called ”Britta”, written by the Swedish national song writer and author Evert Taube.

ABBA released their third album in 1975 called just ABBA. On that album is a track Björn & Benny gave to their friends Svenne & Lotta to compete with in the Swedish competion to get an entry to the Eurovision Song Contest. The song was called ”Bang-A-Boomerang”. But they were not so succesful. So Björn and Benny decided that ABBA should record thier own version. And tonight I played that one.

Frida and Agnetha, the female members of ABBA, both released solo albums in Swedish in 1975. They gave us a couple of tracks each.

Both The Beatles and The Beach Boys were busy recording and performing in 1965. They both gave us some tracks tonight from their albums Help and The Beach Boys Today.

Eric Stewart from 10cc started his recording carrier in Wayne Fontana & The Mindbenders. They gave us a couple of tracks tonigt, too.

In 1975 John Lennon, George Harrison and Paul McCartney/Wings released albums. I played several tracks from those albums.

John Fogerty recorded and released his second solo album in 1975 after the break up of Creedence Clearwater Revival three years earlier.  The first track I played, written by Fogerty, became a smash hit for Status Que later on. ”Rockin’ All Over The World” was the name of that song.

Freddie Mercury released his first and only solo album in 1985. He came out with an album together with Monserrat Caballé some years later. But as he died from AIDS in 1991 he never did a second solo album. Tonight I played one track from the album called Mr Bad Guy. The song was ”Made In Heaven”. I will play some more next Sunday.

Queen with Freddie Mercury finished this evening with the song they stopped all their concerts from 1975 until 1986. That was of course ”God Save The Queen”.

Flying LXXVI 1984, 1994 and 2004 6/9 -09

Tonight we started to celebrate Mr Roger Waters who used to be front man in Pink Floyd after the departure of Syd Barrett in 1968. He also left the group in 1987. Roger Waters was born on September 6 1943 and has his 66 birthday today. I played two tracks from his first solo album from -84 called The Pros And Cons Of  Hitch Hiking.

I also played tracks from -84 with David Gilmour who released his second solo album that year. And Richard Wright who got kicked out of Pink Floyd released an album with the group Zee in -84. Zee consisted of him and Dave Harris. And they only released one album.

Pink Floyd gave us their last studio album in -94. From that one called The Division Bell I played Poles Apart. This album together with the 10cc album …meanwhile are the two best albums in rock history according to the board in Flying.

Yoko Ono finished and released the album Milk And Honey with herself and John Lennon -84. He had started to record tracks for their next album when he got killed outside his home in New York -80.

Paul McCartney made a movie called Give My Regards To Broadstreet in -84. He also released an album with the same name at that occasion. The first song called No More Lonely Nights was recorded both as a ballad, but also as a disco track. Tonight I played the extended version of that track which was only found on the maxi single McCartney made as well.

Lol Creme, former member of 10cc and Godley & Creme will have his birthday on Wednesday the 9th of September. He will be 62 years old. I played a single called Golden Boy he made in Godley & Creme and was released in -84.

Freddie Mercury was born on September 5 in 1946. He should have been 63 years old yesterday if he had been alive. But he died from AIDS in 1991. I played his first solo single tonight called Love Kills released in -84. I also played tracks from two albums with Roger Taylor, the drummer in Queen. He released his second album in -84 called Strange Frontier, and his third in -94 called Happiness? I also played a track from the album The Works by Queen from -84.

Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus from ABBA composed the music theatre Chess. It was finished and released in -84. I played one track from that one. I also played BAO, Benny Andersson’s Orhestra, alone and together with Helen Sjöholm.

Frida Lyngstad gave us her second solo album after ABBA in -84. One track was played from that one. Agnetha Fältskog, the other female singer of ABBA released her latest album in -04. I played two tracks from that one.

Brian Wilson finally finished and released the album Smile in -04. It should have been released back in 1967, but was shelved as the other members of The Beach Boys didn’t react possitively when Brian presented it for them. I told the listerners that among the musicians on the album Smile are the Swedish group Stockholm Strings’N’Horns consisting of eight persons.

John Fogerty from Creedence Clearwater Revival released his solo album Deja Vu in -04. I played the title track from that one tonight.

Nex Sunday I will move forward one year and play tracks from 1965, 1975 and 1985. And the Sunday after that I will play tracks from the years 1985, 1995 and 2005.
